Dear Colleague, All GOS contractors in Staffordshire should have by now received in the post a letter of explanation and an application form for an NHS.net email address. The Eye Health LPN is initiating a programme to provide all optometrists / dispensing opticians with free NHSmail accounts in Shropshire and Staffordshire. There needs to be an initial collection of basic information for all those that want an NHSmail account. NHSmail does everything that you would expect a modern business critical email system to do and has a number of benefits: It's secure Emails within NHSmail, or sent to other secure email systems are protected to UK Government standards. This ensures that sensitive and confidential information is kept safe. It's safe Users of NHSmail are protected by sophisticated and up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spam software, which checks every email passing through the NHSmail service. It's mobile You can access NHSmail from all common Smartphone or tab-let devices, workplace computers, home computers or internet cafes wherever you are in the world. It's recognised NHSmail is endorsed and is often the only means of communication between medical staff and most hospital trusts. It is the only way that most hospitals accept the transfer of clinical information. It's for optometrists / opticians NHSmail is the way all future communication within the NHS will be done. It enables easy transfer of referrals WITH digital photographs; OCT scans; Visual field plots etc to hospital departments. This will result in a huge time and cost saving for busy practitioners. Using secure NHS mail will also satisfy information governance requirements as laid out in the information governance toolkit. Please can all providers complete the application form and preferably email or post the form to me, care of Staffordshire LOC office. The deadline for submissions is - Friday 6th June 2014 All the forms will then be processed by the Health Informatics Support team. If you've not received a form yet or if you've lost it, you can print one off here. NHS.net email application form This is a great opportunity to simplify your working life. It will enable quicker and cheaper referrals to hospitals and also enable faster communication between you and the Area Team. It is therefore very important that each practice has at least one NHS.net email address that will be regularly checked and individual clinicians are encouraged to apply for their own address too.
