LOC Company and Clinical Leads- 12/06/2014
In order to overcome the technical constraints around an LOC entering into contracts for community eye care services in its own right, and to address the preference of CCGs to contract with a single entity, Staffordshire and Shropshire LOCs are working together towards establishing an LOC company.
Use of the LOC company will enable Shropshire and Staffordshire LOCs to put together a consortium of local contractors so that they can all participate in an Any Qualified Provider (AQP) contract as they could do in the past with their own direct contracts. It is anticipated that this will be as a company limited by guarantee, a not for profit organisation run by its directors on behalf of optometrists accredited to the community pathways, and will be at no cost to the two LOCs.
Each community service an LOC company provides will need a clinical lead and a deputy clinical lead, with representation from both Shropshire and Staffordshire. Their job will be to oversee the implementation of the service and its ongoing monitoring.
The LOC company will need clinical leads for the following community eye care pathways:
Clinical leads do not have to be LOC company directors, nor do they have to be on one of the LOCs. Furthermore, you do not have to participate in a particular pathway to be the clinical lead in that pathway. Any optometrist with a special interest in that pathway, and who is enthusiastic about developing it, is most welcome to apply.
If you would like to learn more about the role of clinical lead, please confirm your interest to Alison Lowell by no later than Monday 16th June.
